Residents Chase Early-Morning Burglar From Long Island Home, Police Say

A 56-year-old burglar was chased away by residents after breaking into a Long Island home and stealing belongings, authorities said.

The incident happened shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5, in Southampton, at a home located on Big Fresh Pond Lane, according to Southampton Town Police.

Detectives said Anthony Wilson, of Southampton, entered the home through a ground floor window before stealing an expensive pocket watch and cash.

He was eventually spotted by friends of the homeowner who were staying at the home, police said. They called 911 and reportedly chased Wilson from the scene.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Wilson was arrested Thursday, Feb. 9, on a charge of second-degree burglary. He was ordered held at the Suffolk County jail.
